MARITIME SAFETY: A CORNERSTONE OF GLOBAL TRADE A FOCUS ON SUSTAINABLE, LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS

Sustainable Investments in Uncertain Times: Why Maritime Safety Systems Matter More Than Ever

Dear partners and clients,

We are living in a time marked by uncertainty. Geopolitical tensions, disruptions in global supply chains, and rising sustainability demands are reshaping the foundations of global trade—particularly maritime trade. With more than 80% of the world’s goods transported by sea, ports and maritime hubs have become central to commerce, economic growth, and security.

At Port Suppliers Group AB, we have spent over a decade working to enhance the safety and sustainability of ports. Through innovative maritime safety solutions, we help ensure that ports around the world can meet not only today’s challenges, but also those of tomorrow.

Increasing vessel traffic, larger ships, and faster turnaround times are placing greater demands on reliable and robust infrastructure. Fenders, which protect vessels and quay structures from damage, are more than just technical components—they are essential to maintaining uninterrupted operations, ensuring safe working environments, and reducing maintenance costs. The same is true for our bollards: strength, material selection, and correct installation are critical to a port’s ability to handle both everyday operations and extreme weather conditions.

We are committed to developing products with longer life cycles. Our range of fenders is made from materials that withstand extreme stress while being recyclable. We also offer consultation services to ensure proper sizing and placement, optimizing each project for both technical performance and cost-efficiency.

As global conditions evolve, so too must our infrastructure investments. We support our clients in future-proofing their facilities with solutions that stand the test of time and meet international standards for safety and sustainability.

Warm regards,

The Port Suppliers Group AB Team

PsG LE Fender System with steel panel now in place in Södertälje channel

During 2024, about 50 PsG LE Fender systems have been delivered and installed in the Södertälje channel to protect quays and ships in the channel. Södertälje lock and channel are to be renewed and with that work the safety and accessibility of the waterways through Södertälje and Lake Mälaren are to be improved.

On a cold spring day we inspected the first fenders in place.
The mounting went smooth and easy. The choice of fenders was the PsG LE rubber fender PsG Marine LE Fender with a frontal steel shield  with UHMW-PE  plastic, for ships to slide against the surface. The rubber legs do their job between the quay and the ship by receiving the energy by impact. The ladders also needed a lift and new PsG steel ladders PsG Marine Steel Ladder were installed. Additional there was a need of about 30 new Bollards.PsG Tee Head Bollard
The purpose of the Mälar project is to improve maritime safety and accessibility in the public waterways through the Södertälje channel for onward journeys into Mälaren. By improving the infrastructure for shipping on Mälaren, the railway and road network, which are heavily loaded, can be relieved.

PsG PARALLEL MOTION FENDER

PsG PARALLEL MOTION FENDER is a uniquely designed complete fender system. A swivel lever-arm is placed between the structure, could be concrete or steel, and the front panel. The panel movement during the continuous fender compression, allowing it to move only parallel to its mounting irrespective of the impact level and angle.

The advantage of PM fenders (parallell motion fender)is the system provides identical energy absorption capacity at any impact level. The reaction force is much lower in comparison with the conventional fender systems and the lower reaction force result in less hull pressure and lighter structures, which can lead to significant savings in a complete project.

Last but not least, installation takes place above water and the fender system is lifted into place in one swipe and you get away from chain arrangements.

The panels can be adapted for a number of different rubber elements such as PsG LE elements, PsG cell fender PsG cone fender etc.

PSG PIVOT FENDER SYSTEM DELIVERED

” Portsuppliers Group has delivered pilot fendersystem with rubber cone fender  PSG-C 1000, where the challenge was to adapt to a existing pivot fender system ”

The PsG Pivot Fender can cope with large horizontal and vertical working loads, and offer very high energy absorption and low reaction. The fender is fixed in a box at the bottom or sheetpile quay, which holds the panel vertical on impact. Pivot systems are often interlinked to form flexible barriers along quay faces or around curved marine structures. Suitable  for high tidals.

 Key Performance:

  • The Pivot Fender requires less concrete work above quay, “lectern casting”
  • Usually it is enough to attach the rubber fenders directly into the quay wall
  • No moving parts

PSG CUSHION ROLLER FENDER UP AND RUNNING IN PARIS

” Portsuppliers Group resilient Roller Fender is now mounted and rolling on”

Cushion Roller Fender are above all usued to guide floating structures and pontoons up and down piles gently and quietly. The picture shows a typical way of using the cushion rollers against the piles. To withstand berthing impacts, the roller cushion can be supplemented by a rubber cushion pad, see pad behind the roller fender.

FENDER SYSTEMS FOR PORT OF TRELLEBORG

Port of Trelleborg has two new Ferry locations and Portsuppliers Group has designed and delivered the Marine Fender Systems to both.
The choice of Fender Systems at location FL13 was closed panels with UHMW-PE face
pads and PsG LE Rubber Elements along with chain system. In the location FL14 the choice fell on PsG Arch Fender. Mooring PsG Tee Head Bollards on both locations.

PSG FENDER SYSTEM WITH CLOSED STEEL PANELS AND LE RUBBER UNITS WITH CHAIN SUPPORT

PsG steel panels are designed for optimal strength. Most often, the focus lays on rubber fender elements, but at high forces, the steel panel is as important as the rubber units on high-performance fender systems, this because the fender panels distribute reaction forces throughout the panel and give low hull pressure on vessel. The panel design may withstand large tidal variations and line loads. Another advantage of distributing the forces is that the panels can be designed for interconnection. For more secure mounting, the panels are designed with chains. PsG steel panels are designed either as open panels or often as closed box systems. With closed box systems, the panel is always airtight pressure controlled. Corrosion protection is provided by color systems with high durability in C5M class. The panels can be adapted for a variety of rubber elements PsG LE elements, PsG cell fenders PsG cone fenders etc.
